PHP Developer


Venntro is seeking a PHP Developer to work with the whole business on the White Label Dating platform. This role is a full-time, permanent position that will be located remotely, but will include travel to company events and meetings as required. 

The role sits within our Product Development and Operations team and will report into the Head of Technology.  The PHP Developer works in Agile teams to build improvements and maintain components on the company’s White Label Dating platform.

The role works closely with other developers, designers, testers and project management to ensure effective product solutions that meet the company’s commercial goals are deployed successfully.

The role supports the business in delivering its key objectives by ensuring code, software and applications are issue free when releasing to production, as well as improving process and enhancing efficiencies.

  • Assist development of PHP applications in one or more Agile teams.
  • Help maintain, expand and modernise a small selection of existing PHP applications.
  • Maintain and improve Business Rules and other documentation.
  • Work with other developers in Scrum teams to create new features and functionality.
  • Collaborate across the business to understand commercial requirements.
  • Participate fully in sprint planning, retrospectives and other Scrum ceremonies.
  • Follow best practices to ensure stability and security of company systems.
  • Learn and improve skills using new web techniques and technologies.
  • Commercial PHP skills (7.x.), including the use of PHPUnit
  • Building applications using the Laravel framework (6.x.)
  • Comfortable using Composer
  • Practical experience with HTML5, CSS3 & JavaScript
  • Write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability
  • Experience using data stores (MySQL / Redis)
  • Commercial experience working with large, consumer-facing web platforms and APIs
  • Agile software development experience, including Scrum and Kanban
  • Source control and collaboration through pull requests with git and GitHub
  • Deep understanding of web browsers & mobile device differences and considerations for these
  • Academic background in computer science or software engineering
  • Excellent team-working, communication and attention-to-detail skills
  • A passion for technology and the desire to keep knowledge updated
  • Basic knowledge of working with Linux (CentOS/RHEL)
  • Able to use a Mac
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Experience using Cloudflare, or similar CDNs (Akamai/Fastly)
  • Experience of AWS services (particularly S3, EC2, RDS, SQS, SNS, AMQ, ElastiCache)
  • Experience working with or developing APIs
